Explore the sun’s features and see current solar images courtesy of nasa’s solar dynamics observatory. you can also get a preview of what you’ll see in a total solar eclipse. this educational app about our sun has three pieces: • filters: explore the sun in different wavelengths. this includes a challenge mode where you’re asked to find various features on the sun (sunspots, active regions, magnetic field structures, etc.) • eclipse: make your own eclipse by dragging the moon in front of the sun, and discover eclipse features like the “diamond ring” and the sun’s corona. this also has a challenge mode where you’re asked to not only find various features, but identify the point in an eclipse when they appear. • today’s sun: interactively explore and compare real time images from nasa’s solar dynamics observatory in several different wavelengths.
