Leisure Poker Game - Red Dog

Unless you played the ‘in between’ or ‘acey deucy’ card game as a youngster with your grandparents, red dog poker might seem like a very unusual game. fortunately, it’s incredibly simple to play and in my opinion carries more excitement than other poker table games like caribbean stud poker or trey card poker. traditionally a game born in the casinos of nevada. opening a red dog poker table will find you sat across the green velvet from a dealer, with two buttons in front of you, ‘ante’ & ‘raise’. initially you choose your stake for the ante, which should have a decent range available at most sites, then hit the deal button to get your two cards. to win at red dog requires that you split your two cards, so if you are dealt consecutive cards such as 6/7 or a matching pair this will immediately result in a push, nothing won, nothing lost. where the real win potential comes in is where your two cards have a gap between them, depending on the size of the gap you have the option of pressing call or raising if you believe the next card will split your existing cards. if the gap is narrow, say q/10 for example, simple hit call and hope for a jack. if the gap is higher – say k-2 – hit the raise button and hope for any card from 3-q to come in to win. veteran players of the game have the strategy all worked out of course, generally, the lowest house edge is found by playing only gaps of 7 or more, any less than this and you should just be spamming the call button and moving onto the next deal. the smaller the spread which lands the higher the pay-outs become: • a one-card spread pays out 5:1 • a two-card spread pays out 4:1 • a three-card spread pays out 2:1 • any spread between four and 11 pays out 1:1 one thing to note on this game is that some casinos play with multiple decks and can even offer a progressive jackpot side game which can be played with a single chip. when playing with more than one deck the house edges reduces slightly so such games are usually well sought after. many of the top sites now offer red dog in their table selection, with even netent, better known for their slots selection, including it in their live dealer section.
